NEWS: Murphy Highlights Experience & Bipartisan Results in First Television Ad of the General Election

First out of the gate on TV, Murphy touts her rating as most effective freshman member of the U.S. House

WINTER PARK — U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy today launched her first television ad of the 2018 campaign. The 30-second television ad – “Working” – highlights Murphy’s biography as a former businesswoman, educator, and national security specialist and touts her record of getting the job done. The ad features some of her major bipartisan results, including improving veterans care, making our communities safer, and investing in Florida’s schools. The Murphy campaign said it is also launching a similar 15-second digital ad.

The television ad may be viewed by clicking here.

Statement from Stephanie Murphy:

“Whether in the boardroom, the classroom, or in the Pentagon, we never cared if you were a Democrat or a Republican; we just focused on getting the job done. In my first term, I’ve been rated as the most effective House freshman and the seventh most bipartisan member of the entire U.S. House, and I believe I’m effective because I’m bipartisan.

“Unlike my opponent, I don’t believe any party or any president has it right 100 percent of the time. Our campaign is about jobs, security, and equality, and about putting people over politics. That’s not just my promise to voters; that’s also my record.”

TRANSCRIPT

STEPHANIE MURPHY:
I’m Stephanie Murphy.
I’ve been an educator,
worked in business,
and run this place, too.
And before all that, I was a national security specialist.
Through it all, no one cared if you were a Republican or Democrat – you just focused on getting the job done.
So I’ve worked with both parties to pass new laws helping improve veterans care, make our communities safer, and invest in Florida schools.
I’m Stephanie Murphy and I approve this message because it’s time Washington started working, too.

NEWS: Stephanie Murphy Primary Election Night Statement

WINTER PARK — U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy released the following statement after securing the Democratic nomination for Congress in Florida’s 7th Congressional District:

“I am incredibly honored to earn the Democratic nomination for Congress, and I look forward to a civil general election campaign based on ideas, values, and our different visions for the future of this nation.

“My campaign is about jobs, security, and equality, and I’m proud of the grassroots support we’ve received across central Florida. In a time of historic dysfunction, I have a proven record of working with both parties to get results, standing up to the president when he’s wrong, and always putting people over politics.

“The biggest question in this race is: who will always do what’s right no matter the political cost? How voters answer that question will decide who represents this district in Congress next year.”

NEWS: Stephanie Murphy Announces Key Labor Endorsements, Pledges to Fight Back Against Attacks on Union Rights

Murphy re-election endorsed by key central Florida labor unions

WINTER PARK — In response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Janus vs. AFSCME, Stephanie Murphy released the following statement:

“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court is the latest salvo in a decades-long partisan attack on workers’ rights to organize and collectively bargain for better jobs and a better life. Having grown up in a union household, I believe this ruling is a setback for workers and the people they serve. Strong unions have made this country more prosperous by winning basic workplace protections for countless working families and retirees, union and non-union alike.

“This ruling redoubles my commitment to fight for higher wages, stronger benefits, and a better life for working families by ensuring that unions have the strength to advocate on their behalf. That’s why I am proud to have earned endorsements from the hardworking members of the AFL-CIO and the Florida Education Association.

“I’ve lived the union difference. No court case or partisan attack can take away the power of collective bargaining to change lives.”

Stephanie Murphy’s re-election campaign today announced two major endorsements in her race for Congress: the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and its affiliate, the central Florida AFL-CIO, which represents 40,000 hardworking men and women, and the Florida Education Association (FEA), representing over 140,000 Florida teachers.

NEWS: Stephanie Murphy Announces Inaugural Ticket Selection Process

Request Deadline for Florida’s 7th District Residents is Jan. 6

ORLANDO – U.S. Congresswoman-Elect Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park said her office will officially begin collecting requests for tickets to the inaugural ceremony of Donald J. Trump as President of the United States. Her office announced a submission deadline of Friday, Jan. 6 at noon, where a random drawing will then determine selections. Requests may be made online, by mail, or by phone.

President-Elect Trump will be sworn in as president at noon on Jan. 20, 2017, at an outdoor ceremony on the west steps of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) distributes directly to Members of Congress a select number of tickets to view the ceremony from reserved areas. Each Member of Congress then determines his or her own process of distributing tickets to constituents. Murphy said her office is setting aside a substantial number of her tickets for public lottery.

“The inauguration of a president is a historic, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Murphy. “Though I do not take office until Jan. 3, 2017, I wanted to start this process as soon as possible so that constituents have time to make their travel accommodations. Remember, you don’t need a ticket to be on the National Mall for the inauguration, but tickets do ensure you a reserved standing area closer to the U.S. Capitol building. When I take office in January, we will be ready and willing to help constituents as they plan their visit to our nation’s capital for the inauguration.”

Due to limited supply, each person may only request up to five tickets. Murphy’s office said interested parties have until noon on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, to submit their ticket requests either online, by phone, or by mail. At noon on Jan. 6, Murphy’s office will conduct a random drawing to determine which requests will be granted until all tickets have been allocated. Constituents who reside in Florida’s Seventh Congressional District will be given priority. Florida’s Seventh District includes all of Seminole County and much of northern Orange County, including downtown Orlando, UCF, Maitland, and Winter Park.

Residents in Florida’s Seventh Congressional District may request tickets to attend the presidential inaugural ceremony of Donald J. Trump on Jan. 20, 2017, in one of three ways:

  • Phone: 407-490-0270
  • Mail: Congresswoman-Elect Stephanie Murphy, P.O. Box 207, Winter Park, FL 32790*

*Must be postmarked by Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.

Murphy’s office said there are some important considerations to consider while requesting tickets:

  • A ticket is not required to be on the National Mall for the inauguration as it is available to the general public on a first-come, first-serve basis. A ticket, however, does ensure access to a reserved standing area on the east end of the National Mall closer to the U.S. Capitol building, where the ceremony will take place.
  • While tickets are free of charge, ticket holders are responsible for funding all personal expenses related to the inauguration. Please keep in mind that these expenses—particularly airfare and hotel accommodations—can be substantial.
  • Ticket holders should be prepared to stand for lengthy periods of time, in cold and possibly wet weather, and should expect tight security and large crowds.
  • Inauguration tickets must be picked in person at Congresswoman Murphy’s Washington, D.C., office on Thursday, Jan. 18th or Friday, Jan. 19th. A government-issued ID will be required to claim tickets. The U.S. House of Representatives prohibits mailing tickets to constituents under any circumstance.
  • Tickets only admit you to reserved standing areas to view the swearing-in ceremony from the National Mall on Jan. 20, 2017. Members of Congress are not given tickets to inaugural balls for public distribution.

NEWS: Stephanie Murphy Joins New Democrat Coalition & Blue Dog Coalition

Says Coalitions Align with Her Goals of Small Business Growth, National Security & Fiscal Discipline

ORLANDO – U.S. Congresswoman-Elect Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park will join the pro-small business New Democrat Coalition and the fiscally responsible Democratic Blue Dog Coalition when she is sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives on Jan. 3, 2017. Murphy said these coalitions align with her goals of strengthening central Florida’s growing entrepreneurial and small business sectors, keeping our nation secure, and ensuring fiscal discipline in Congress.

“When I take office on January 3, I want to hit the ground running to help strengthen our economy, keep our nation safe, and bring fiscal discipline back to Congress,” said Murphy. “I campaigned on a new approach – on working with both Democrats and Republicans to get things done. Both the New Dems and the Blue Dogs have strong reputations for reaching across the aisle and putting good public policy over partisan politics. That’s exactly what I’ll do in Congress.”

The combined membership of the New Democrat Coalition and the Blue Dog Coalition represents more than one-third of the Democratic caucus. Both coalitions have strong bipartisan reputations and a history of working with Republicans. Murphy said she will work with her New Dem colleagues to advocate legislation that strengthens our nation’s middle class and will work with her Blue Dog colleagues to help introduce No Budget, No Pay, which says Members of Congress must pass a budget and appropriations bills on time or they don’t get paid.

“There is a lot of uncertainty facing our country in the next few years, and there is too much on the line for partisan politics to derail our progress. When I see offensive rhetoric or where I disagree with a proposal, I will oppose them in the strongest possible terms. But, where I can find common ground, I will do so,” said Murphy. “Despite the challenging political environment, I’ll also continue to fight for issues I care deeply about, such as commonsense gun laws, access to women’s health care, comprehensive immigration reform, efforts to curb climate change, and protecting our seniors and veterans.”

Founded in 1997, the New Democrat Coalition is a key group of Democratic legislators dedicated to maintaining America’s status as the world’s strongest, most successful nation. The New Democrat Coalition is made up of 54 democratic, pro-growth, innovation-focused lawmakers committed to seeking pragmatic solutions to help hard working Americans compete in our increasingly globalized economy. The New Democrats are committed to strengthening, modernizing, and maintaining the U.S. national infrastructure in order to keep America the most competitive, creative, and innovative country in the world. And, the New Democrats support a tough and smart national security agenda. As policy entrepreneurs, the New Democrats continually seek new and effective ways to move our nation forward.

The Blue Dog Coalition, formed in 1995, is an official caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives comprised of 17 fiscally conservative Democrats that are deeply committed to the financial stability and national security of the United States and dedicated to finding bipartisan solutions to the nation’s biggest challenges. Since they first organized, the Blue Dog Coalition’s membership numbers have risen and fallen, but their commitment to fiscal responsibility and bipartisanship has long endured.  In today’s hyper-partisan environment, the Blue Dogs continue to stand as one of the last caucuses in the House of Representatives willing to set aside party politics and put the interests of the nation first.

NEWS: Congresswoman-Elect Murphy’s Statement on Veterans Day

ORLANDO – Congresswoman-Elect Stephanie Murphy today issued the following statement to recognize Veterans Day:

“As someone whose family was rescued by the U.S. Navy when we fled Communist Vietnam, I am incredibly grateful to our men and women in uniform. The courageous, dedicated people who make up our Armed Forces not only fight for us, but they also represent the best in us – defending democracy and liberty around the world at all cost.

“I had the incredible honor to work alongside our service members when I was a national security specialist at the Pentagon. I have seen their service, their patriotism, and their sacrifice up close – and it is awe-inspiring and unwavering.

“On this day – and every day – we must thank our veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice, and we must rededicate ourselves to supporting our veterans with the same loyalty they showed this country. When I take office in January, I will make taking care of our veterans, our troops, and our military families one of my top priorities.”

NEWS: Congresswoman-Elect Stephanie Murphy Statement on Election

ORLANDO – Congresswoman-Elect Stephanie Murphy today issued a statement calling for unity following yesterday’s historic election.

Statement from Congresswoman-Elect Stephanie Murphy:

“I am honored and humbled by the trust and faith the people of central Florida have placed in me to represent them in the U.S. Congress. I am also proud that our campaign gave a voice to the true values and priorities of this new and diverse district, which is ultimately why we won. This was a campaign focused on the issues – not partisanship – and I will take the same approach with me to our nation’s capital.

“I got into this race because I was so frustrated by the dysfunction and deadlock in Washington – where special interests and career politicians were the only ones benefitting from a broken government. We campaigned on bringing a new approach to Congress that would prioritize people over politics and would bring both parties together to grow an economy that works for everyone, to make our communities safer, and to get things done again in this country. I will take this same commonsense, bipartisan, and results-driven approach with me to Congress to fight for central Florida.

“We owe it to our new president and our country to come together, put families first again, and to move our nation forward with a stronger middle class. Just as I have always done – whether in business, academia, or in the Pentagon under a Republican president – I will work with anyone who is willing to work with me to get results and to make our great nation even greater.”

NEWS: National Experts Predict a Murphy Win in Florida Seventh

ORLANDO –Today, the nonpartisan Rothenberg and Gonzales Political Report moved the race rating in Florida’s Seventh Congressional District from “pure toss-up” to “toss-up/tilt Democratic.” They said, “Democrat Stephanie Murphy was a late entry into the race against GOP Rep. John Mica. But Democrats believe the race shifted 20 points in two months, and that Murphy is even with or even ahead of the congressman. Republicans admit Mica is in the fight of his life in a district Clinton looks poised to win, even though Romney carried it in 2012. Mica admitted to Politico that he didn’t have a campaign manager or a full-time press person. This seat looks ripe for the picking. Move from Pure Toss-Up to Toss-Up/Tilt Democratic.”

Statement from Stephanie Murphy:

“I am so proud of the support we’re receiving from people all across central Florida who are responding to our message of change, security and equality. National experts now agree that the momentum is on our side, and we are poised to win.

“With just a few days left until the election, every vote matters. I encourage everyone in central Florida to get out and vote during the early voting period from now until Sunday, November 6.”

Murphy is running for Congress in Florida’s Seventh Congressional District, which includes all of Seminole County and northern Orange County, including Winter Park and much of downtown Orlando.
