Immigration

“My life story is one that can only happen here in America, which is why I’m so proud to be an American and want to continue giving back to the country that gave me so many opportunities.” – Stephanie Murphy

When Stephanie was six months old, her parents fled Communist Vietnam in search of a better life for their children. After being rescued at sea by the U.S. Navy, they came to America where her parents worked multiple jobs around the clock to send her brother and her to college – the first in their family to do so.

When our country was attacked on September 11, 2001, Stephanie left the private sector and eventually joined the Department of Defense as a national security specialist helping to plan counterterrorism and disaster relief efforts globally. She wanted to help protect the country that rescued her family at sea so many years ago.

Today, Stephanie continues to give back and serve her community and country as a Member of Congress fighting for the values, ideals and opportunities that drew her family to this country so many years ago.

Our immigration system is completely broken, which is why Stephanie will support comprehensive immigration reform. Stephanie has a history of working with both Republicans and Democrats to get results, and that’s exactly what she’s doing in Congress.

As a former national security specialist, Stephanie understands the need to secure our borders and deport those who pose a threat to public safety. She also believes in treating all people and families with respect and establishing a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrants already in the country who meet certain requirements. Stephanie is also working to streamline the visa and naturalization process and reform our immigration system in a way that helps keep families together, encourages economic development here at home, and continues to ensure America’s role as an economic superpower.
