“My life story is one that can only happen here in America, which is why I’m so proud to be an American and want to continue giving back to the country that gave me so many opportunities.” – Stephanie Murphy
- Stephanie believes we must keep our nation safe, while also holding true to American values.
- Stephanie strongly opposes the President’s border wall, his Muslim ban, and his family separation policy.
- Stephanie is an original cosponsor of the DREAM Act and signed a discharge petition to force an immediate vote on the bill.
- Stephanie believes we must pass comprehensive immigration reform that secures our borders and ports, creates a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrants, and reforms our VISA program.
When Stephanie was six months old, her parents fled Communist Vietnam in search of a better life for their children. After being rescued at sea by the U.S. Navy, they came to America where her parents worked multiple jobs around the clock to send her brother and her to college – the first in their family to do so.
When our country was attacked on September 11, 2001, Stephanie left the private sector and eventually joined the Department of Defense as a national security specialist helping to plan counterterrorism and disaster relief efforts globally. She wanted to help protect the country that rescued her family at sea so many years ago.
Today, Stephanie continues to give back and serve her community and country as a Member of Congress fighting for the values, ideals and opportunities that drew her family to this country so many years ago.
Our immigration system is completely broken, which is why Stephanie supports bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform.
As a former national security specialist, Stephanie understands the need to secure our borders and ports and deport those who pose a threat to public safety. She opposes President Trump’s border wall, his Muslim ban. She strongly opposes separating families at the border and has helped introduced legislation to stop this inhumane practice once and for all
She believes we should treat all freedom-loving families who come to this country with respect and establish a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrants already in the country who meet certain requirements.
Stephanie is an original cosponsor of the DREAM Act, and she signed the discharge petition to force a vote on this important bill. However, House Republicans continue to refuse to bring the bill to a vote on the floor, which would almost assuredly pass. Stephanie believes strongly these aspiring Americans did nothing wrong and that this is the only country they have ever known; we must pass the DREAM Act as soon as possible so they may stay home.
Stephanie is also working to streamline the visa and naturalization process and reform our immigration system in a way that helps keep families together, encourages economic development here at home, and continues to ensure America’s role as an economic superpower.
